Star Quilt-Along, week 5

So, it's clear that I need to iron this. Again. I did iron it once, but my iron is having issues. If it has water in it, it just steams. The function to turn it off doesn't work, so I can either have a shoddy ironing job or burned fingers. You can see which one I chose.
The pink and white leaves are Max & Nobie for Moda. I think the line is just called Pink and Brown. Very apt name. The darker pink is just some scrap I found in the bag I'm pulling stuff from for my pink and brown Ohio Star quilt. I thought it matched well enough.
I'm sure you're sick of these block of the month blocks. I'll try to put something more interesting on here next. If I can find it.
As an aside, I have five boys and only two girls, so why on earth are most of quilts pink? My poor boys have to choose which girly quilt to snuggle under. They have their own boyish quilts, but those mostly stay upstairs. The ones that are in my quilt basket are pretty much all girly. Poor guys. I'll have to do something about that. Jill sent me all those great boy prints. Hmmm . . . (strokes chin) Have a fun day!

Baby Shower Gift

I know you've seen this already in a previous post, but I wanted to give it its own post so I can link to it on my list of completed quilts. I took my inspiration from Amanda Jean who took her inspiration from Denyse Schmidt. I'm liking the free-form quilting, even though it was hard at first to get such a structured girl to throw out the rules. I gave both of these to my friend for her baby shower. It's her third baby but her first boy.
I dyed some diapers in denim blue Rit dye -- tie-dyed some of them, and then just sewed strips of fabric up the middle. All these fabrics on the burp cloths also came from Jill. I am grateful for her generosity -- totally -- but I'm wondering how she was able to give up so much great stuff. I have been using stuff she sent me more than my own stuff lately. That doesn't help me reduce my own stash, although now that she gave it to me, it's all part of my stash too. Thanks, Jill!
Okay. Gotta run some errands now! Have a crafty day (and you can take that both ways, all you sneaky people)!

Princess Quilt

I'm not sure when I finished quilting this quilt, but I'm sure it was before we bought our house 3 1/2 years ago. It has sat around waiting to be bound. At first, I didn't have enough of one fabric left, and I didn't want to do a scrappy binding since this quilt is kind of busy anyway. Then, after a while, I thought, I'll just do it anyway. Then I couldn't find my scraps.
I finally decided to just bind it in something I had. Actually, I think this pink was given to me by Jill in one of the multiple boxes she gave me. It's kind of speckled like some of the other fabrics, and it matches the darker pink.
I hand quilted it with lots of different motifs. In each square I have a large motif -- crowns, hearts, flowers, gowns -- and in each triangle I have a smaller motif -- all those aforementioned plus shoes and wands.
I think it's Moda fabric, but I totally do not remember the name of the line. The quilt itself is not that interesting, but the quilting is so fun. That's what I love about this quilt. It took so long, but it's just so fun, because everthing is different. I did major swirls in the green borders. Don't know what to call it. It has princesses on it, I guess.
Anyway, I know it's not on my list on the side, but it is an old project that needed finishing. So there it is. I finished something. And I love it. And, yes, I know some of my pics are blurry. I keep trying. Please, be patient with me.

Star Quilt-Along, week 4

Once again, you'll have to check Amanda Jean's blog for the name of this block. Still haven't done my setting blocks. I guess I must not be as committed as Jill, who already has all the setting blocks done -- and probably the sashing too.

Star Quilt-Along, week 3

Ohio Star, love this block. No, I haven't started the setting blocks yet. I bet Jill is done with hers.
